Background 2. Rufford ford is on Rufford Lane where Rainworth Water crosses to the west of Rufford Country Park. Rufford village was mentioned in the Domesday book and the adjacent Rufford Abbey Sawmill and outbuildings are Grade 2 listed. A ford has been in this location for hundreds of years and features on Chapmans Map of Nottinghamshire 1774.
